Research Scientist, Health Economics & Advanced Analytics

Avalere Health is seeking a Research Scientist to join our growing Health Economics and Advanced Analytics (HEAA) practice.

Avalere Health is seeking a Research Scientist to join our growing Health Economics and Advanced Analytics (HEAA) practice. The HEAA practice consists of staff with specialized experience, such as health service researchers, health economists, clinicians, and project managers, who conceptualize, execute, and deliver qualitative, analytical, and strategy-based work products for clients. We also work closely with other practices within Avalere, applying the full scope of the firm’s knowledge base to the development of multi-disciplinary, creative solutions on behalf of our clients.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interface with clients to design health economics and outcomes research studies, protocols, economic models, predictive and advanced analytics, observational research, reports, and publications

  • Independently manage workflow and make direct contributions to the research process
  • Develop and author study reports, scientific publications, abstracts, and posters
  • Contribute to development of proposals and concept papers
  • Work within the research team to identify areas for delivering innovation to clients

Skills, Experience, and Other Job Related Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • MA/MS or PhD in economics, health economics, health policy, health services research, pharmacy administration, public health, epidemiology, statistics or related discipline

  • 2-10 years of consulting, healthcare, academia, or pharmaceutical/device industry experience required
  • Broad technical knowledge of health economics, outcomes research and analytic designs
  • Proficiency in design and execution of economic modeling studies and/or design and execution of observational research using large administrative pharmacy and medical claims/EMR or registry datasets
  • Working knowledge of clinical epidemiology and clinical services rendered in major therapeutic areas; ability to gain such knowledge as projects arise in specific clinical areas
  • Understanding of the systematic literature review process
  • Working knowledge of statistical software packages such as SAS, and/or STATA
  • Descriptive and inferential statistical techniques and/or econometric skills
  • Experience in presenting research at scientific conferences and/or a record of peer-reviewed publications

Additional Skills and Competencies:

  • PharmD or clinical background a plus

  • Excellent writing, project management, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to independently manage multiple work streams with limited supervision
