Paying for the High Cost of Care

| Jul 14, 2014

This July, Avalere’s Tanisha Carino and Scott Gottlieb published a paper on AEI.org, discussing the ways in which medical research for major diseases continues to advance, while simultaneously making cures more expensive upfront.

Tanisha and Scott argue that the U.S. healthcare industry must work toward new models for paying for drugs in order to attain their intended public health goals of caring for the sick.  One foreseeable solution, they say, is to create some form of credit and contracting arrangement between payers and the rest of the healthcare industry to enable these high costs to be amortized over many years.
