Dan reiterated that it is only the third week of a six month open enrollment period, and coverage does not even begin until January 1. As consumers near the December 15 deadline to apply for coverage starting January 1, experts will have a better idea of what enrollment will ultimately look like next year.
Dan also expressed concern over the absolute cost of many of the high deductible health plans, and the need for Health Plans to alert consumers of their likely out-of-pocket costs under each plan. If most Americans select a Silver Plan, the presumed most popular option, they will see a $2,500 deductible on average, ~$5,000 for Bronze Plans.
