Avalere senior vice president, Gillian Woollett, has been appointed to the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention’s (USP’s) Nomenclature and Labeling Expert Committee (NLEC).
The NLEC is a core component in USP’s governance and is responsible for developing and revising USP standards that comprise its compendia:
• USP and National Formulary
• USP Compounding Compendium
• Herbal Medicines Compendium
• Dietary Supplements Compendium
• Food Chemicals Codex.
Gillian will serve on the NLEC for a 5-year term.
“Gillian brings with her a deep understanding of FDA and life sciences sectors that will support her in this significant scientific function,” said Dan Mendelson, CEO of Avalere.
Gillian is a well-known expert on scientific and regulatory strategy and policy. Prior to joining Avalere, she was Chief Scientist at Engel & Novitt, LLP, and was Vice President, Science and Regulatory Affairs at the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO). She joined BIO after being Associate Vice President at the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America. She has been an appointee on federal advisory committees to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Commerce. Trained as a molecular biologist/immunologist, Gillian publishes in peer-reviewed literature on biotechnology topics, and is a frequent speaker on emerging biosciences and their ability to support better and more focused therapies. Gillian has a BA, MA in the Natural Sciences Tripos (Biochemistry) from the University of Cambridge, and a DPhil in Immunology from the University of Oxford.
