Associate Principal, Patient-Centric Value, Evidence & Strategy

Avalere Health is seeking an Associate Principal with extensive expertise in value assessment, patient-focused drug development, or evidence generation to join our Evidence & Strategy practice.

The Associate Principal, Patient-Centric Value, will support client engagements that inform business and evidence strategy related to patient-centric value, including translation and interpretation of value frameworks, evidence strategy, as well as the development and testing of shared decision-making and other clinical tools.

The ideal candidate would have deep knowledge of interpreting evidence and communicating value for life sciences products, especially how value is defined from all perspectives, including patients and caregivers. They will also have a good grasp of the key health technology assessment and value assessment frameworks and how they are used by payors to determine coverage and utilization management approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on key issues and methods associated with defining and measuring patient-centric value
  • Demonstrate superior consulting acumen, deepening client relationships and anticipating client needs and impacts of healthcare landscape changes
  • Help generate business with new clients and grow business with existing clients
  • Manage a portfolio of clients to identify and deliver on business opportunities and projects that dovetail with Avalere’s expertise and offerings, particularly around patient-centric value, real-world evidence generation, and healthcare strategy
  • Manage multiple clients and short- and long-term deliverables to ensure that Avalere’s knowledge and expertise are available to meet client needs
  • Effectively manage individuals, teams, and junior staff, overseeing team members’ workload and professional development
  • Set individual and team goals and hold staff accountable to them
  • Conceptualize, design, and execute—from start to finish—a broad range of client projects involving diverse, cross-functional, cross-practice teams

Skills, Experience, and Other Job-Related Requirements

Education Requirements

  • A graduate degree in a health-related discipline such as a clinical field, health policy, healthcare management, public health, health economics, business administration, or a relevant discipline
  • A combination of bachelor’s degree and in-depth relevant work experience is also acceptable.

Skill Requirements

  • Sophisticated understanding of defining value propositions for life sciences products, including patient and caregiver experience, engagement, quality, treatment cost and affordability, whole-person care
  • Understanding of value assessment frameworks (e.g., ICER, ISPOR) and common approaches to calculating/assessing value
  • Ability to translate and implement frameworks that support patient-centric value
  • Ability to translate complex research into accessible and actionable insights
  • Proven situational leadership skills and the ability to motivate and generate enthusiasm with individuals across all levels of the organization
  • Commitment to working in a team environment with an emphasis on collaboration and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues and clients
  • Solid communication skills (written and verbal) including the ability to concisely explain complicated concepts to executives within and outside of the firm

Experience Requirements

  • 7 years of relevant work experience, which could include employment by a healthcare provider organization, pharmaceutical or health insurance company, digital health company, healthcare consultancy, or healthcare-focused research organization.
  • Experience in another type of organization thinking critically about or working on behalf of the healthcare industry is an appropriate substitute for direct industry experience. Experience should be focused on healthcare quality, value, patient journey, managed care, or clinical evidence development, ideally involving evaluation of pharmaceuticals or from a pharmaceutical manufacturer’s perspective.
  • Experience overseeing and directing the work of staff members.
  • Experience generating real-world evidence (qualitative or quantitative) to develop patient- and caregiver-driven value assessments and inform clinical treatment guidelines, formulary management, and other key facets.
  • Experience in formative research or implementation science, including formulating research questions, designing data collection instruments, and executing studies preferred.
