Consultant/Associate Principal, Health Plans & Providers

Avalere Health is seeking a Consultant/Associate Principal to support our strategy and policy consulting for healthcare providers, with a significant emphasis on serving our large and diverse group of post-acute care clients.

This position is part of the Health Plans & Providers Practice (HPP), which provides strategic guidance and analytic support for health plans and providers across the care continuum, particularly skilled nursing facilities, home health providers, hospice providers, and diversified post-acute care companies. In addition to supporting our clients on a broad array of business, policy, and regulatory issues related to Medicare and Medicaid policy, we provide clients with critical data and insights related to their performance on cost and quality measures to inform their long-range strategy as well as their partnerships with payers and providers.


  • Leads high-profile client engagements from start to finish including conceptualization, design, and execution of projects
  • Counsels and advises clients to achieve optimal results
  • Solves complex client issues and presents clients with novel solutions and ideas
  • Engages with diverse and cross-functional internal teams
  • Serves as a key subject-matter expert within the practice and for the firm with respect to provide policy and operations (including inpatient, outpatient, and post-acute care)
  • Brings excellent thought leadership to help continue to build the brand and public reputation of the practice
  • Supports the sales and business development team by helping to identify new content and client opportunities
  • Effectively mentors, manages and trains individuals, teams, and junior staff members within the practice and across the firm
  • Oversees team members’ work load and professional development

Skills, Experience, and Other Job-Related Requirements

Education Requirements

  • A graduate degree in business administration, healthcare management, health policy, public policy, public health, public administration, economics, or a relevant discipline is preferred

Skill Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, highly professional presence; able to interact with board-level and C-level executives
  • Commitment to working in a team environment with an emphasis on collaboration and maintaining positive relationship with colleagues and clients to achieve solutions-oriented goals
  • Proactive mindset and approach: able to think several steps ahead to client conversions, anticipate teammates’ needs, and suggest improvements to existing processes
  • Superior problem solving and analytic skills with the capability of applying knowledge outside of one’s immediate functional area
  • Willingness to travel

Experience Requirements

  • 5–10 years of relevant work experience, including:
    • Working within a post-acute care organization, with broad exposure to reimbursement policy and regulations that impact PAC providers; ideal candidate has depth of knowledge related to skilled nursing facilities, home health, and hospice/palliative care
    • Employment with a consulting firm focused on post-acute care strategy and operations
    • Strong background in consulting services is ideal
  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience is preferred
