Health Policy Product Manager and Editor

Avalere Health is seeking a Health Policy Product Manager and Editor to lead Avalere’s Federal Policy 360 team.

The 360 Research Series leverages Avalere’s deep substantive expertise to deliver research and analyses that help healthcare industry stakeholders anticipate, prepare for, and understand the effects of environmental changes. Content spans a broad range of healthcare issues, including federal legislative activity, Medicare and Medicaid coverage and payment policies, Food and Drug Administration regulation and guidance, and reimbursement/financing of new medicines. Our clients include pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies, health plans, provider organizations, and patient groups. Federal Policy 360 is part of Avalere’s 360 Research Series, which also includes State Policy 360. 

The primary responsibility of the Health Policy Product Manager and Editor is to oversee the day-to-day production of Federal Policy 360 and serve as an editor/writing coach for a small team of writers. Interested candidates should have a broad understanding of a variety of healthcare policy topics at the federal level, experience managing complex projects, and a strong interest in teaching writing skills to junior staff. Background in federal legislative and regulatory processes or Medicare payment systems is strongly preferred. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee several small teams simultaneously creating content for Federal Policy 360, ensuring work is timely, relevant, accurate, actionable, and insightful and clearly articulates why it matters to clients  
  • Edit written content for Federal Policy 360 to ensure writing is clear, concise, and consistent with Avalere’s style guide. Such materials include long-form summaries of major legislation, regulations, and events and short, insightful, fast-turnaround daily email summaries 
  • Mentor, supervise, and train junior associates, primarily to improve their writing skills  
  • Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to formulate and continuously update a research agenda  
  • Identify sound approaches to research and synthesize findings into actionable insights for clients 
  • Propose creative methods for delivering research findings  
  • Continuously look for opportunities to improve Federal Policy 360’s value proposition and offerings 
  • Provide program knowledge support to sales and marketing 
  • Maintain a strong understanding of competitive landscape

  • Excellent writing skills, and experience writing articles, white papers, or other policy communications 
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills 
  • Demonstrated interest in a broad range of healthcare policy topics at the federal level 
  • Dedication to a high-quality work product  
  • High level of initiative and ability to work independently 

Additional Skills and Competencies

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask  
  • Experience or interest in training/mentoring others to improve writing skills 
  • Familiarity with federal legislative and regulatory processes and Medicare payment systems 
  • Sound analytic and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to work across multiple groups 

Experience Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in a healthcare policy role focused on research or content development  
  • Experience managing large, complex, or multiple projects and teams 
  • Experience working collaboratively with teams
