Principal / Managing Director, Reimbursement, Market Access, and HEOR

Avalere Health is seeking a highly motivated, experienced individual for a Principal/Managing Director to join our Market Access and Reimbursement Practice with a focus on the application of health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) to market access strategy.

The Principal / Managing Director will perform or delegate the quantitative activities that support market access for pharmaceutical and device manufacturers’ products.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on reimbursement and market access-related issues as well as health economics and advanced analytic techniques used to demonstrate the value of products of clients in these industries
  • Design and conduct analyses that support market access and uptake of client products, especially those pertaining to the quantitative demonstration of value
  • Provide strategic insight into the application of HEOR-oriented market access concepts and methods to expand opportunities with existing and new clients
  • Create both strategic and tactical recommendations for clients to ensure optimal market access for client products
  • Conceptualize the scope of projects for life science clients, assemble a cross-functional team, and oversee the team from project initiation through completion of client deliverables
  • Work collaboratively with leaders across Avalere to support business development efforts
  • Proactively seek and obtain speaking engagements with clients, policy makers, and thought leaders in order to generate public recognition for Avalere and result in new business and revenue generation
  • Mentor, supervise, and train staff and team members within the practice and across the firm

Skills, Experience, and Other Job-Related Requirements

Education Requirements

  • Advanced degree in health economics, epidemiology, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related discipline (MBA, MS, MPH, PharmD, PhD)

Skill Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of HEOR concepts and methods and their application to a variety of health policy and health care business issues; experience with descriptive and evaluator statistics, literature searches, value demonstration, budget impact models, cost effectiveness, cost utility, comparative effectiveness, and other HEOR studies
  • Basic knowledge of coverage, coding, reimbursement techniques, and market access methods of major payers in the US
  • Demonstrated experience advising executive level stakeholders in pharmaceutical and device manufacturing, provider, government, or similar environments
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong communication and presentation skills

Experience Requirements

  • At least 8 years of work experience, ideally encompassing market access, HEOR, and health policy experience/exposure; examples of relevant work experience include consulting firms, diagnostics or pharmaceutical manufacturers, clinical laboratories with specialty in molecular diagnostics, and the healthcare industry at large
  • 3–5 years of consulting experience (preferably to external clients but may include internal clients as well)
  • At least 5 years of management/supervisory experience with excellent leadership/mentoring skills in developing staff; team leadership experience a plus
