Avalere Health is seeking a Research Scientist II to join its Health Plans Practice. The team focuses on a wide range of areas to support health plans and healthcare provider clients, including physician network development, value-based contracting, population health strategy, and policy engagement. We bring unique insights to these clients through our industry-leading MORE² Registry® data source, which contains over 271M patients, and through out deep subject-matter expertise and understanding of their business challenges.

  • Contributes complex, advanced technical SME to projects
  • Contributes high-level SME to complex scopes and ideates project design and methods
  • Responsible for technical scope writing
  • Authors study reports and scientific publications, abstracts, and posters
  • Identifies and develops solutions to key strategic business problems using high-level modeling and statistical analyses techniques
  • Utilizes SQL to perform advanced-level data extraction, transformation and data management; fully documents and manages library of source code and algorithms for future use
  • Develops and tests hypotheses in support of research and product offerings, and communicate findings in a clear, precise, and actionable manner to our clients
  • Strong technical reviewer of deliverables; produces deliverables requiring minimal editing
  • Interfaces independently with clients to design research studies, protocols, predictive and advanced analytics, observational research, reports and, publications

  • Manages complex technical tasks on projects
  • Develops SME in junior staff
  • All candidates to comply with all security policies/procedures

Skills, Experience, and Other Job-Related Requirements

Education Requirements

  • Master’s degree in computer science, machine learning, applied mathematics, econometrics, statistics, engineering, physics, or related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Skill Requirements

  • Demonstrated high-level problem solving, analytical reasoning and decision-making skills
  • Advanced understanding of and experience in researching and resolving data issues with a logical, instinctive, and problem-solving mentality working with large, complex and incomplete sources
  • Business analytical skills (process flows, procedures, spreadsheets, modeling, etc.) and strong understanding of design and architecture principles
  • Exhibits excellent project management skills, with an ability to work independently on multiple projects with competing priorities and a strong commitment to meeting goals and deadlines
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word

Additional Skills and Competencies

  • Advanced understanding of database management tools (e.g., Hadoop, Hive, MapReduce)
  • Advanced analytical skills and ability to understand and interpret results based on advanced statistical techniques
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in IT and business environments; ability to communicate to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Adept at working independently in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment
  • Knowledge of healthcare, health policy, pharmaceutical, medical device, and related issues
  • Excellent ability to manage challenging client situations
  • Excellent ability to troubleshoot and recommend solutions
  • Excellent ability to translate complex information for a wide range of clients

Experience Requirements

  • 4–8 years of professional experience in healthcare industry; experience working with administrative claims data and big data preferred
  • Experience working with health plan and provider organizations preferred
