Andrew joins Avalere’s Policy practice as a principal. With 20 years of healthcare experience, he will be advising a range of clients on policy and advocacy issues tied to digital health, provider reimbursement, and the medical device and supply chain markets.

Prior to Avalere, Andrew worked at PatientPing as the vice president of Government Affairs & Strategic Partnerships, leading the company’s external affairs and strategic market development functions. His focus areas included state and federal government advocacy, provider association and health information exchange partnerships, and data interoperability and health information sharing policy.

Andrew previously held senior strategy and market development roles at Medtronic and Cigna. He also led the government affairs and policy departments at First Quality Enterprises (a privately held global device manufacturer) and the Health Industry Distributors Association. Andrew began his career at The Advisory Board Company, holding a range of business development, content delivery, and national speaking roles.

“We are now at an important juncture where data and technology are shaping how we think about and approach healthcare,” said Miryam Frieder, Practice Director at Avalere.  “Andrew’s healthcare data and tech strategy background will prove invaluable for those organizations that are looking to understand how policy changes may influence businesses.”

He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Northeastern University and a master’s degree in economics from Trinity College Dublin.

“As diverse sectors of the healthcare ecosystem look for data and technology solutions to support quality improvement and cost reduction, it’s critical that our clients understand the evolving policy and market realities in this space,” said Andrew E. Van Ostrand, Principal at Avalere. “With healthcare reform squarely in the minds of lawmakers and voters—and as the unique impacts of the pandemic unfold across the delivery system—I couldn’t be more excited to join this talented team and begin supporting the essential work of our clients.”
