Seung O. Kim, PhD, Senior Manager, provides advanced statistics and analytics research and development to improve Avalere’s existing and new product processes and internal operations.

Prior to joining Avalere, Seung was a Health Economics and Outcomes Researcher for Inovalon in the areas of health economics, claims data analytics, program evaluation, health policy analysis, case-mix risk adjustment, healthcare utilization, and cost modeling. Prior to joining Inovalon, he was a research scientist at National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago, where he pioneered and co-led Medicare fee-for-service claims analytics for CMS’ Health Care Innovation Award projects. At the Hilltop Institute, Seung served as a policy analyst, where he analyzed Medicaid fee-for-service claims and assessed the impact of changes in Medicaid programs and policies. Seung obtained his PhD in Health Systems and Health Economics from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and an MPH from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Avalere research recently published in ClinicoEconomics and Outcomes Research compared patient characteristics and real-world outcomes in 2 distinct high-risk cohorts of patients with serious mental illness (SMI), including patients with a hospitalization related to SMI (recently discharged) and patients newly diagnosed with SMI (early episode). The research included 51,705 patients with bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, and schizophrenia.
