Pharma Company Gains Insights into Quality Measures

The client needed to understand care hurdles and growth areas for treatment of a broad range of neuropsychiatric conditions.

We assessed neuropsychiatric disease management tools, stakeholders, and patient-care opportunities. First, we assessed quality measures relevant to neuropsychiatric symptoms used within the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services quality programs or reported by the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s HEDIS program. We then reviewed disease management tools—including those used by nonprofit organizations, health systems, and plans—for central nervous system patients with neuropsychiatric symptoms. We also conducted stakeholder research and provided high-level recommendations for strategic engagement in the quality landscape. 

This project revealed three key quality trends for disease management within the sector. Above all, quality improvement efforts often focus on a patient’s ability to manage care. Second, resources used in daily practice support standardization of care. Lastly, innovative technology and data collection are being utilized in the field. Based on these findings, we provided the client with a quality inventory, a comprehensive review of disease management tools and profiles/assessments of key stakeholders in the sector, and strategies for client engagement in the neuropsychiatric space.  

As a result of our recommendations, the client was able to prioritize strategies internally, determine buy-in and appetite for resources, and engage stakeholders internally and externally regarding holistic quality strategy.
