EPMs: The Newest Bundled Payment Model

The new Episode Payment Models (EPMs) proposed rule will require hospitals in 98 metropolitan areas to bear risk for the cost of care within certain cardiac episodes that include the inpatient hospital stay and 90 days post-discharge. The proposed rule also requires hospitals in the mandatory Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) program to bear risk for additional hip and femur procedures.
