EPMs: The Newest Bundled Payment Model

CMS released another mandatory bundled payment proposed rule which will significantly expand the scope of hospitals bearing risk for episodes of care nationally.

The new Episode Payment Models (EPMs) proposed rule will require hospitals in 98 metropolitan areas to bear risk for the cost of care within certain cardiac episodes that include the inpatient hospital stay and 90 days post-discharge. The proposed rule also requires hospitals in the mandatory Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) program to bear risk for additional hip and femur procedures.
